I am looking for the best climbing rose with a long blooming season for a huge trellace over my garage.?
I live in northern california and the rose would be planted in an area that gets full sun and a good amount of wind. I am prefereably looking for hot colors. Thanks!
For climbing roses, my favorite is the Zepherine Daughin- which is actually shade tolerant as well (although it prefers sun) and is the only “thornless” rose. It has a pale pink, single flower.
You could also consider alternative vines like:
Trumpet Creeper (Campsis radicans), it has a vibrant orange flower, attracts hummingbirds, and grows aggressively- sometimes too agressively.
Clematis is another great flowering vine, and likes full sun. It is a member of the Ranunculus familiy (Ranunculaceae) so it needs a good mulch.
Since you are in northern california, depending on which zone you are in, you may also want to try some other tropical flowering vines such as Bouganvilla, Mandevilla or Passion Flower (Passiflora).
